Veganism. What?! Why?!

JAMIE1

I decided to write a post on what veganism is, why people do it and how it is possible for you to do it. Please do not think this is a post trying to ‘convert’ you. Or tell you how bad you are that you aren’t vegan. It really isn’t. It’s just a little bit of info for those who want it! And the true practicalities of it.

I thought I’d start this post off by explaining just what veganism is, and why people choose this diet.
(Consider this an educating post, rather than me trying to convert your diets or make you feel bad for what you do eat)

First of all, everyone is entitled to eat however they choose to. Still to this day, there is no ‘set diet’ which would be beneficial to every person. Everyone is different and people can survive on a huge variety of different diets.

What Is Veganism?

“Veganism is the practice of minimizing harm to all animals, which requires abstention from animal products, such as meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, lanolin, wool, fur, silk, suede, and leather.

So essentially veganism is refraining from all animals products not just meat and dairy etc. But also wool, silk, honey and many more.

My Story and Why I chose this diet

I chose to go vegan around a year and a half after being vegetarian. I ate meat for about 19 years. I have always loved animals and valued their lives equally to mine and other peoples. But I didn’t have the correct education in how healthy vegetarianism is and how it could be done.

Once I looked into this, I gave it a go for a week. And just never went back. After a year and a half of this diet I considered veganism, but realised I couldn’t possibly live without milk/cheese. So I figured I was doing enough already by being a veggie!

Shortly after, I did some research into why people choose veganism, the pros and cons of it. After looking into this, I decided to give it a go. Just for a week. Similarly to vegetarianism, I never went back! And here I am.
